Traders’ Rights

Across Nigeria’s bustling markets and streets, millions of men and women work daily to earn a living through trade. These traders form the backbone of our economy — yet many face constant threats of harassment, illegal levies, confiscation of goods, and forced evictions. At Human Right Pathfinders Association of Nigeria (HURPA Nigeria), we stand with traders, ensuring their rights to fair treatment, safety, and dignity are protected at all times.

We believe that every trader — whether in an open market, roadside stall, or small shop — deserves justice, respect, and the freedom to operate without fear or discrimination.

Core Rights of Traders We Defend

Our Work for Market Traders

  • Providing legal defense for traders facing harassment, illegal arrests, or loss of goods.
  • Intervening in cases of market demolition, forced eviction, and extortion.
  • Working with market leaders and government agencies to establish fair trade regulations.
  • Training traders on human rights awareness, business safety, and financial inclusion.
  • Promoting women traders’ empowerment through access to justice and micro-enterprise support.

Support Our Work for Traders

Your donations help us provide free legal services, humanitarian relief, and advocacy for market traders across Nigeria. We use your support to defend victims of injustice and to promote policies that protect livelihoods and dignity.

  • Assist traders whose goods are illegally seized or destroyed.
  • Fund legal representation and mediation for victims of market injustice.
  • Provide emergency support for displaced traders and families after demolitions.
  • Support awareness campaigns on fair trade and economic justice.
